I like that they are thick as I use them as oven mitts when removing food from the oven - better than oven mitts to protect my hands. They also make great makeshift trivets to protect the table when I place them under a hot pot from the oven. Another feature is the relief pattern (the pattern has very deep "valleys”). This allows you to absorb water more efficiently instead of squeezing it out. As a result, it is also heat-insulating due to the air ducts.
