Necessary and valuable.
I bought two packs to make pendant lights. The instructions just say oh use those self tapping screws. I don't know what's in your lamps, but mine was tin and there's no way you can knock on it yourself. I had to drill and drill everything. After that everything was smooth. Fast and easy. The second one took me 15 minutes, necessary so I'd say buy it because you need it, but I'm happy with the end result too. It also had a white bezel, which was nice.
