No instructions and control is not intuitive at all. Watch the video in the post on how to use it. You must 1) turn both knobs fully counterclockwise 2) insert the plug into the outlet 3) WITHIN 5 SECONDS (!) turn both knobs fully clockwise. [On indicator lights up] 3) Set according to desired operation. If you don't do this exactly, the device will just sit there and do nothing. It is even more difficult to work only at night or only during the day. I guarantee you won't understand this without watching the video. Good luck remembering how to do it in a year.
