This design of the scoop makes it easy to sweep the scoop across the surface of the ice cream several times and quickly form a ball of the desired size without having to reach deep into the frozen ice like other scoops require. You can try this technique with other scoops, but good luck, it won't work the way it did with this scoop. The nice, round ball of ice pops easily from the scoop into your bowl, eliminating the need for the thumb lever that many other scoops rely on and which, in my experience, tends to wear out or break. Scooping ice cream is no longer a frustrating strength exercise that tires your wrist. Multiple reviews (and product information) say you should simply hand rinse and wash your spoon instead of washing it in the dishwasher. Don't forget to remind everyone to heed this advice and this scoop should last a lot longer than the alternatives.
