Dead batteries.
Just received the IR thermometer. It seems to work, although I haven't had a chance to use it on a pizza oven (the purpose of the purchase). Make sure you have some AAA batteries. The 2 that were there were DOA (dead on arrival). 3 stars because the tool seems to work but I had to supply batteries.
