Used this for a pictionary for an upcoming family birthday and bought it along with a black framed 24 x 18 dry erase board (Quartet, Dry Erase, Magnetic Board for $12 at Revain ) . So for less than $35 I have a great easel and drawing board that is both attractive and practical. Based on the mixed reviews I was expecting this to be tedious to assemble and not user friendly. But on the contrary. It is fully assembled except for the base that holds the underside of the frame/canvas. And I was blown away by how well designed it is. The three legs have 2 sets of extensions embedded telescopically, and each extension is locked or unlocked by a clasp lock, which is made of plastic but seems sturdy enough. . The legs extended and closed smoothly and I had no problem getting them the same distance because you can first extend them straight out parallel and check with the eye before unfolding the tripod. The top vertical shaft (to support your frame on the back) has a similar retractable mechanism, but not a telescopic one, and a spring clip that can be locked in place after you've secured your item. Attaching the bar and determining the height to screw it in was the hardest part, but after some trial and error it turned out perfect. I could see screws/plugs loosen if you overtighten. So be careful with it or keep spares handy. The legs and their adjustable angles are ideal for stabilization. Despite its good construction and stability, this is still a lightweight aluminum stand, so it performs best when handled with care and not bumped. Overall, many customizations are available and they are easy to complete. If you are using the same frame/canvas and just want to adjust the height, adjusting the 3 legs is a snap, just a matter of a minute or two. When you switch to a different canvas, it takes more of a hassle to adjust stem height and alignment to ensure a good fit for your new piece. But versatility can hardly be called a minus. Also impressive is the ease with which everything folds up and packs into the perfect zipped bag with shoulder strap. I was expecting a lot less for $20 and got an incredibly high quality item that will meet my current needs and will last longer. I very rarely review, it takes a lot to impress so keep that in mind when rating this item.
