I ordered this item for my elderly mother (101 years old) who has severe hearing loss in one ear and near complete deafness in the other. Since she could only hear from one side of the headset and there was no L/R balance function, I looked for other products with a balance control. After a long research, I ordered the Sennheiser SET 840 RF TV because of the great reviews and features. Surprise: TV Ears outperforms Sennheiser despite the lack of balance control (I deducted one point because of the lack of balance function, otherwise we are very satisfied). Mom hears the TV with her "good" ear at half the Sennheiser volume and the sound is a bit cleaner (less hiss) for me. As loud as she needs, others in the room can hear the TV at a normal volume. After all, we didn't need any frills, just a well-amplified sound so mom could hear the news. TV Ears might not be for the audiophile, but it's a simple quality product that does what it says on the tin and does it well.
