Parts break easily

I love building wooden models. Some are harder than others due to the strength of the wood and the nature of the design. I had trouble with this model, although I used wax to make the pieces fit together more easily. During assembly I managed to glue the two pieces together with wood glue. However, when I attached the "ropes" to the mast, one of the parts actually broke due to the stress created by the structure. It was impossible to fix, so I couldn't finish the model.
