While they appear overall sturdy and well made, they may not be waterproof due to a design flaw. Immediately after unpacking, the hinge side does not close as tightly as the clip side. Unfortunately, the rubber O-ring is too small to fill this gap. You can barely see it in one of my photos on the right. This is the best picture I could get, but the gap spans most of this page. In fact, the O-ring sits very deep in its groove all the way around and only seems to seal around the various clamps. I was about to return it but out of curiosity I threaded an extension through and pinched it. closed. With inlaid cord (14 gauge) it opens at both ends!
