Review on 🍊 CLARK'S Cutting Board Oil & Wax: 2 Bottle Set with Orange & Lemon Scent - Includes 12oz Cutting Board Oil & 6oz Finish Wax by Jasmine Ashford

Absorbs quickly, chopping boards with dried or end-grain wood need significantly more!

I bought this to spruce up a brand new but long abandoned end grain cutting board that had dried out so much that there was a small crack between one of the squares of end grain. The main advantage of buying this oil over regular mineral oil from the pharmacy is that it is thinner and therefore absorbs very quickly on the cutting board. As with the first oiling, the board uses a lot more oil initially, especially with end boards. While your mileage may vary depending on how the factory finished your board prior to purchase, my board sucked this 12 ounce bottle in no time so we decided to buy a cheaper pharmacy mineral oil, to complete the board preparation process. Because drugstore mineral oils are thicker, it takes longer to soak and check regularly to see when the oil needs to be reapplied. However, it is generally recommended to use cutting board oils rather than more expensive ones, as end boards require a much larger amount. Clarke's oil itself seems really high quality and smells great, although with new boards this may only affect how much oil you need to fully oil the board. I would recommend using it during your final greasing sessions or in between with the cheaper mineral oil. Wax is very effective and long-lasting. The consistency is more "good" than thick/creamy and helps a little. It is best to warm it up a little with the warmth of your hands/fingers and then apply as directed, otherwise it will just break up into crumbly crumbs which you have to pick up and spread back onto the board. The amount of wax will likely last a very long time, and since it takes so little to get a wax finish on the board I'd be comfortable having to re-wax it every week or so. Wax also works wonders as a crack filler and is a great alternative to the more time consuming task of using wood glue, sanding etc. Plus, it's a natural, food-safe, and clean way to protect food particles from stains. on the board.
