Good camera for the price.

I bought this camera for my upcoming trip to Legoland, California. where my kids would probably spend most of their time at the water park. So for fun I thought it would be nice to get a waterproof camera. I'm by no means a camera expert, I currently have a Sony HX5V which is my main camera and without a doubt the best I've owned. Olympus is a good product and the photos turned out much better than I expected. They were clear and impressive. The video was very good too. I didn't have time to try all the settings, otherwise my photos and videos could have gotten better. Was it waterproof? Yes, it was. I've had to charge it several times during our trip, and not once has it failed. I've also since used it at our local water park and it's holding up great. One of the problems is being very, very careful not to get anything on the glass lens, otherwise water droplets will stick to it, resulting in some bad shots. I really liked not having to worry about splashes or the camera falling underwater. Out of the water, the HX5V did the trick. :) I took some pictures underwater and they turned out good, some of them were really good. I would like my kids to be able to hold their breath longer so the bubbles have more time to float away but they are only 4 and 6 years old so it will take time. I'm sure as I get used to it I'll get better at using different settings to improve my photographic experience. My only complaint, and I know I'm not the first to mention it, is the battery life. I'm used to easily getting 250+ shots and videos from Sony (and many videos are over 5 minutes long). This camera probably takes just over 90 daily shots before the camera starts to die (and the few videos I've taken have been under 4 minutes each). I'll post some photos taken with this camera when I have time. Would I buy this camera again? I wish it was a good camera for the price and my family spends a lot of time in the water. Just make sure you have another camera handy for any ground shots, as you'll need to soak it in tap water for 10 minutes to dry before you can charge it. So there's not much reason to buy a second battery as you can't replace it if you need to. That's probably why many people have water resistance issues. I hope this review was helpful. Sorry I don't have much technical stuff to compare and review. UPDATE: 06/16/2013 Camera still works great. I followed the directions carefully and we had no leaks. This camera is still waterproof. However, I must now admit that I have become much more confident and will buy a spare battery to make up for the short lifespan. As summer approached, I played with drying the camera with my beach towel, leaving it in the sun for about 5 minutes, and opening and closing the carmera. NO QUESTIONS! I am sure that I can change the battery without hesitation. I wouldn't try if we were on the beach or any other place where something might get stuck. Either way, the camera is still great value for money. :) UPDATE: 11/25/2014 The camera is still waterproof but I wish the battery had lasted longer. I ended up buying 4 spares. The good thing is that they're only around $13 each at Revain at the moment.
