Review on 🏞️ Westinghouse Lighting Alta Vista 52-Inch Matte Black Ceiling Fan, Dimmable LED Light Kit with Opal Frosted Glass, Remote Control Included by Teresa Olson

Disappointing quality

We bought this fan as an upgrade to a 20 year old ceiling fan that was in our bedroom when we moved into a new house. Nothing wrong with the old ceiling fan other than it was ugly and hanging quite far from the ceiling and I had to watch my head as I walked past it. I would like us to keep this original fan now that I have installed it and have been living with it for about a month. I should have guessed that I would feel this way from the first day I tried to install it. Several hardware quality issues pointed to this, but I chose to ignore them. For example, one of the two set screws securing the main fan housing to the lower shaft was fully wedged. I had to use a friend and some wrenches to loosen it and then it never turned right. The image attached to this review shows the mounting bracket where it meets the ceiling. This is by far the most disappointing part of this fan. First, this is a very flimsy part. Second, the 2 screws that attach the fan to the ceiling are even more flimsy. In fact, these are the thinnest screws in the entire fan assembly, although they must support the weight of the fan AND ALSO keep it from swaying side-to-side as you rotate it. Finally, due to the shape of the bracket and the fact that it's curved on the inside, I can't tighten the screws enough and so my fan keeps rocking back and forth. There is literally nothing I can do but listen to the tick tick tick of the fan shaking all night every night. I've tried screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches. literally anything to tighten those bolts. Is it because I thought ceiling fans shouldn't wobble even if they aren't firmly attached to the ceiling? My father-in-law swears it's true and I believe him. So maybe the fan is wrong. I've tried balancing it with the included blade weights but nothing has worked. I even tried tightening various parts inside the fan but still to no avail. In any case, the bottom line of my review is this: Westinghouse is a far cry from the high-quality, reliable American-made home appliances they once made. Buyers beware of this item. Ceiling fans are not something I will ever pay attention to again.
