I thought it would be a great fan for the price but I was misunderstood that using the remote control is optional. My electrician told me it wasn't. The fan can be connected to a wall switch, but a remote control must be used. You have to press the on button on the remote to then use the wall switch, but then you turn on the fan and light at one switch, bringing back the two switches that were currently there from the previous fan. As others have said this fan looks great but the way the blades are mounted is TERRIBLE. You have to get the screw to balance on the screwdriver and line up the holes properly, it's a mess. I've found that with a two switch connection you can turn on the light on one and the fan on the other. Just connect the pink/red wire to the blue one. You'll have to fiddle around with the remote to keep it that way, but after that you won't need the remote anymore (unless you want to adjust the fan speed).

We bought this fan as an upgrade to a 20 year old ceiling fan that was in our bedroom when we moved into a new house.
