My 88 year old father just moved in with me. and with dad came his 50 pound dog. Now I live in an apartment, have 2 cats and am a granddaughter. This dog has had, say, minimal training and has been known to bite when threatened. So I'm pretty busy with this dog. Unfortunately my father and stepmother adopted this dog and it could have become a project for an experienced dog trainer. They were definitely mistaken for her as they are NOT dog trainers. She was always suspicious of strangers and would bite their legs etc. if their backs were turned. Bad enough with an adult, but if she does this to my granddaughter or her friends, we're in trouble. She hardly ever interacts with children, which in itself is a pretty big problem. In addition, she has a passion for hunting and has not been near cats in about 8 years. One of my cats is a real "shy cat" who will hide if you look at him from the side just to complicate things. I have a lot of work ahead of me. When I realized I had to take her along with my dad, I started exploring gate options. I need something that will keep her going (thankfully she doesn't check those things!) while still allowing my dad to handle it with minimal fuss. His mobility is quite limited (he uses a walker) and he is at risk of falling, so he needs to be able to get through easily. I realized that I probably needed more than one goal. And I realized I really wasn't sure how it was going to work until the dog got here. When I saw this gate/courtyard I realized that this was my answer to my problems. I have a lot of options with it, so if things change (hopefully) I can change how we set it up. After trying a few configurations I got 4 panels at one end of the long living room to cradle the dog when we go out (he will shit if left in a big enough room) and also a place to put him down , if we have company to protect her while she learns her manners. We have 3 more panels on the other side of the room to keep them with us most of the time and to give the cats a safe place to get to their litter box and food. (Also, stopping one of my cats from escaping through my sliding door when I'm playing Bar B Queen is great!) but that's okay - it might come in handy in the future. We're moving into a new house soon, so I think it's great that I can take it with me and adapt it to the new space. Handling that dog probably caused me more stress than any other part of the move. or at least it's right there with the more intense parts, because I'm realistic that if she bites even one of my granddaughter's friends, or even an adult, she could very well be confiscated and even euthanized. The burden of this seems to be greater than the "burden" of working with my ailing father. So I'm really glad we have it now. It works great! She's already learning not to chase the braver cat that comes and goes through the gap we left to get into the living room. She also doesn't seem to mind staying in a smaller room when we go out. To be honest I couldn't have picked a better option for my needs. This item is quite strong but light for such a large set. Seriously, there are so many ways to customize this thing to suit your needs. And the price for an 8 leaf gate is amazing. I was very discouraged when I started looking for gates because I didn't really know how I was going to build everything and I didn't want to buy 4 different gates (or more) to see what would work. So if you have a situation where you need to separate groups of animals easily and quickly, this is your gate. If you have an awkwardly shaped area that needs fencing, this is your gate. If you're traveling and need a moving handle, this is your gate. If you have someone who can't get through the standard gates that most of these things have, this is your gate. I'll upload pics in the next day or so to show how we're setting this up for our current situation. Although I am a reviewer here, I purchased this item at full retail price as a PERSONAL purchase and am reviewing it because I want to. I was not asked to write a review and I have no personal connection with the seller. As always, my opinions and experiences reflect my experience with the product. I hope my review helps you with your purchase decision!
