I originally bought this to measure the water temperature in my aquariums. It's gotten so hot lately that I really have to be careful not to let the water get too warm. Well to be honest when it arrived I loved it so much that I decided to use it as my main meat thermometer and now I use my old fish tank meat thermometer. I compared the readings and I think it's very accurate. I also appreciated his accuracy in making hamburger patties. I know exactly how red I like meat, and when the thermometer read 147 degrees, my meat was exactly how I like it. This thermometer has a very thin probe which is better for measuring thin meats like the pork chops I buy. Another feature I like in hindsight, because I didn't really pay attention to it, is the magnetic backing, which allows me to place it on a small convection oven that sits on the counter right next to my stove . This means that the thermometer is always ready to hand - another small plus point. There is even a bottle opener. I am very impressed with this particular meat thermometer.
