I received two sticks that were oriented horizontally rather than vertically; Bad luck in the draw. I washed the pieces in white vinegar before cooking them and noticed little black bugs popping up in the solution, similar to bugs. I immediately filled it with hydrogen peroxide and boiled for 20 minutes. I will update my review in a few weeks. It may increase or decrease depending on the beetle and the growing fungus. I think these are good sticks. Update: No bug issues. I had to remove these two sticks from my terrarium within a week of purchase. Any spot that touched the ground or glass began to grow mold. A little research showed me that the vine is notorious for developing fungi in humid areas. Reduced from 3 to 2 stars as they are no longer useful to me.
