They're a little hard to describe - sort of like Velcro, but more structured? Whatever it is, it's soft, comfortable, breathable (love you FitBit OEM strap, but so damn sweaty!), washable, easy on and off, yet very secure. The pins snap into the band so you can't lose them during the replacement process. Once in the garden, mine was covered in mud. I put it in a jar of warm soapy water, let it soak a bit, then shook it for a few minutes. Rinse it clean and you'd never know it was dirty 15 minutes ago. And it dries quickly. The only minor thing I could change is the hard plastic pieces on the green strap. The stripe is soft, dusty green, thin, restrained. The solid pieces that hold the pins and complete the end are aquamarine in color. Well, it just doesn't go together. I still wear it the most!
