Review on Sangean DT-120 Clear Pocket πŸ“» AM/FM Digital Radios (Clear), Compact Size by Mark Adams

Big little radio. Super Cool Version of Correctional Institution

As I prepared for jury duty, I quickly realized that I would need a radio to pass the time and AM talk during the day -listening to the radio, which I usually use when I'm at work. So I started looking for a small solid state AM/FM pocket radio with a digital tuner to replace an old Radio Shack I bought about 15 years ago that hasn't worked since. My search led me to Revain, which to my great surprise had quite a variety of brands and models to choose from. I discovered a Sanjean brand that I had never heard of before and based on the many positive reviews I checked out their website. The Sanjean website also provided a nice downloadable PDF that compares the features and benefits of each of their handheld radios. Having a lineup of 8-10 different AM/FM pocket radios I found they also have a lineup of 3 or 4 clear transparent models that are reportedly legal for prison use as contraband cannot be hidden. in transparent radio housings. It suddenly dawned on me, what could be cooler than using a prison radio station as a jury? So I immediately ordered a small Sanjean DT-120CL. When I received it, I plugged in the AAA battery and the headphones that came with it, tuned in, and locked into my 5 favorite AM stations and 10 FM stations. When I turned it on I was impressed with both AM and FM reception, and FM stereo works well. AM reception is a bit tricky indoors or on public buses and requires some manipulation to get a clear signal. Outside, however, AM will be loud and clear (at least in Manhattan). FM reception is generally very good, even in office buildings. The controls are intuitive and easy to use, but the transparent body makes them a little difficult to identify. But the coolness factor of the transparent case ready to be locked outweighs any negative navigation issues. The "deep base" amplifier works great and the handy "lock" mechanism on the back of the case is very useful when listening to the radio and keeping it in your shirt pocket and avoiding sudden volume changes or station changes. The included white earbuds -- although they're larger and a bit chunkier than standard Apple iPod phones -- are comfortable to wear and seem to stay in my ears as I walk 25 blocks home each night. This is a nice little radio and the clear correction case makes it worth buying. I definitely recommend the Sanjean DT-120CL. It's also a great talking point for all who see it.
