Our family places very high demands on apple scissors. We have a large family with small and larger children and we eat 1-2 apples every day. In the last 5 years we have tried apple slicers from 3 different brands and each one has fallen apart in different ways. I chose this one because of the great reviews. We really like this apple slicer. The biggest advantage for our family is that it can cut apples/pears into 16 slices. They are the perfect size for younger children and can easily be shared by all older children. Some have complained that the center hole is too big, but we like it. Our old cutters had a smaller center hole and we kept getting the core in our apple slices. This center hole also seems just perfect for large apples (Costco apples) to keep the core out of the apple slices. The apple slicer can be switched between 8 and 16 pieces, although we usually leave it at 16 pieces. Another advantage is that it is equipped with a bottom that completely cuts through the apple and protects the blades during storage, although we use it so often that it is always on the counter. Excellent purchase!
