Review on Gray Liberty Pumps 257 Pump, 1.5 Inches by Terry Murphy

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Both failed the same way

I've had 2 of these pumps; both were used to raise water from an irrigation pipe containing melted snow from the Olympic Mountains; The water is full of debris. My plumber sold me the first one he renovated; I thought he was doing me a favor, but he wasn't. After the failure I immediately ordered another one. I ordered this model thinking its cast iron body would outlive the cheaper models. Absolutely not. The flow rate is so low I couldn't put a sprinkler on it, but it was better than nothing because my shallow well was pumping sand and I had to water the garden. BOTH PUMPS FAILED THE SAME. method in equivalent time. The first one I bought failed at the start of the 2nd watering season. The bottom plastic cover would not stay in the cast iron case. I even ordered a new cover, tried to attach it, nothing happened. Apparently the cast iron body was deformed just enough to hold the lid until the impeller started turning. I left it on the porch for the winter, thinking that it deforms the body. I have ordered a new one. It worked (barely) all summer. I carried it home all winter. It failed just like the other at the beginning of the second irrigation season. The impeller cover does not remain in the housing and breaks the necessary vacuum required for the impeller to operate. No vacuum, no sucking, no lifting. I can get more powerful sump/drain pumps (3/4 hp and 1.5 hp) with much more stroke (31 ft and 32.8 ft) and at least 83.42 times more productivity (4171 gallons per hour and 4356). GPH) at a fraction of the cost ($79.19 and $89.99).
