Good reliable pump, the best among submersible pumps

We are 3 years old so it's time to give a review. The previous two pumps we had were the cheapest plastic pumps in the home store. The first lasted exactly three years (out of warranty only). In the second case, the float got stuck in the pit wall and dried up indefinitely. We wanted one with a side sliding float so it wouldn't get stuck. Despite the shorter/more frequent cycles inherent in this type of swimmer, this thing has performed flawlessly so far. We live in low-lying areas and large…

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other models

Two separate houses, two faulty cells and two freedom successes!

Over the last 4+ years we have had to replace two Zoeller pumps in two different homes due to their typical, well known float switch sticking problems. We replaced them with these Liberty pumps and we are very happy! Liberty pumps are quieter, definitely drain sumps faster, and being full pumps they can also pump larger debris (dirt, small rocks/gravel, broken debris, etc.). We also installed Liberty SJ10 SumpJet backup water pumps which saved our basements from flooding due to a defective…

Failed after 3 months

I have had two Liberty drain pumps that have worked great for 5 years. I decided to replace the most used one in the basement of our second home to avoid problems. I bought a model 257, the same as I already had. The new pump simply stopped working three months after installation. My wife and I happened to be spending time in the house and I noticed that the sump was full of water in addition to the new sump bought in June. After a few manipulations with the float valve, it worked perfectly. I…

VMF Float Switch Intermittent

I bought this pump 5 years ago after buying a home with two pit sumps, one of which died a month after closing. I replaced the first one with a 287 (1/2 hp). 287 has been working flawlessly for 4 years. One day I knew another pump that wasn't passing as much water was going to die and I'd have to replace it, and I wanted a quality brand when it came time to replace it. So I bought this 257 and kept it in reserve for the last 5 years. Well, one day the installed Flo Tec expired. The pump was…

Both failed the same way

I've had 2 of these pumps; both were used to raise water from an irrigation pipe containing melted snow from the Olympic Mountains; The water is full of debris. My plumber sold me the first one he renovated; I thought he was doing me a favor, but he wasn't. After the failure I immediately ordered another one. I ordered this model thinking its cast iron body would outlive the cheaper models. Absolutely not. The flow rate is so low I couldn't put a sprinkler on it, but it was better than nothing…

Liberty 257 Drain Pump - Quiet, Powerful and Durable

I installed this pump to replace an 11 year old 1/3 HP Zoeller. I chose the Liberty pump based on online reviews and price. It was cheaper than the comparable Zoeller and offered similar features, including cast-iron metal construction. Out of the box, the pump looks exactly as pictured and weighs at least 20 pounds. It's solid, seamless, and appears to be assembled with quality parts. The float mechanism and switch mechanism also look well designed. As the float moves up to the switch, it…

Just about perfect for rough plumbing work

My house is on a spring and the cesspool is constantly running water. The typical lifespan of a drain pump in my house is about a year. The failure is due to the sheer number of on-off cycles it goes through, or clogging with sound collecting on intake grilles or exhaust pipes. At first glance, the groundwater looks clean, but it's pumping A LOT (tens of thousands of gallons a day) so fine clay deposits get quite large over time. So every three months I stretch the exhaust pipes to clean them…

  • I have no negative feelings, it's just fine
