Liberty 257 Drain Pump - Quiet, Powerful and Durable

I installed this pump to replace an 11 year old 1/3 HP Zoeller. I chose the Liberty pump based on online reviews and price. It was cheaper than the comparable Zoeller and offered similar features, including cast-iron metal construction. Out of the box, the pump looks exactly as pictured and weighs at least 20 pounds. It's solid, seamless, and appears to be assembled with quality parts. The float mechanism and switch mechanism also look well designed. As the float moves up to the switch, it activates the magnet, which turns on the pump. The switch seems well put together and well designed. Installation was easy - pull out the old drain pump by disconnecting it from the PVC fitting or check valve, fit a new PVC outlet pipe (1.5" Schedule 40) using the old pipe, as a template exactly adjust to the length of the pipe, then after the pvc cement has cured, put it in the sump and get started.with float or switch.Ideally, the pump should be installed near the center of the sump opening. If using a check valve, you should according to Using the instructions, drill a 1/8" hole just above the outlet. The outlet is on the PVC pipe on the pump to avoid air pockets. I drilled the hole about 1-2" above the outlet since I have a Use a check valve to prevent water from flowing back into the pump. Water will be sprayed through a small 1/8" diameter hole, but this is normal operation. The last - in general its operation is very quiet I can't even hear the pump when it turns on - the only sign that the pump is working is the sound that the check valve makes when it closes after the pump does its Work finished.I had a Liberty pump under my washing machine Has been in my basement for over 10 years and still works very well. I bet this pump will last as long as the Zöller.
