It seemed crazy about dental care

The idea of mechanically cleaning our cats teeth seemed ridiculous until we had a cat with some dental problems who ended up having two surgeries to remove bad teeth. I decided early on to try brushing our two kittens' teeth. I probably should have started earlier, but. Anyway, here's my $0.02: 1) Start young. I started when they were 1.5 years old and I would love to start if they were real kittens. Make it "normal" as soon as possible. 2) Walk slowly. I started with one of the little pimply things that go around my finger. At first both cats were suspicious, but I just petted them and gradually moved their chin and lips over several months. I then started grinding my teeth and stopped immediately, then went deeper for a longer duration. This cat toothbrush can work on the same principle. 3) Inject the enzymatic cat toothpaste without rubbing it into the teeth. Just have them lick it off your finger first, then your toothbrush, *then* start brushing some teeth and start there. If they don't lick it off your finger, try a different flavor. 4) No cat will ever like it, but they can take it. Be sure to give them rewards, treats, pets, etc. after playing. 5) This is a good replacement for the one that fits on my finger - it's smaller and allows me to access teeth further back in my mouth. The toothbrush is big enough to hold and quite stiff (metal inside?), but the silicone on the outside is soft and gentle on our kittens' mouths. The only reason I only gave this 3x star for "ease of use" is that none of this will ever be "simple" - it will take patience, but it's worth it. Much luck.
