Review on πŸ’Ύ Efficient Data Storage: BUFFALO LinkStation 210 4TB Home Office Private Cloud with Included Hard Drives by Bob Vulpes

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Very disappointed: Datastore

I really wanted this to work. There were many reviewers who complained about the setting. I'm not an IT guy, but I'm better than most amateurs. So I figured I could handle it. Other reviewers complained about the inaccuracy of the documentation; You were right. About five hours later I started calling support. 1- Renewed support - one hour. They tried, but they were completely ignorant. 2- Buffalo support. First I had to wait two days. They don't work after five or on weekends. When I finally found a specialist, he spent an hour and a half (via a remote connection) setting it up using the Buffalo utilities. When I pointed out that this still didn't work in my Windows 10 environment, he brushed me off and said they "don't support the Windows app". 3- Microsoft support. After a long wait another two hours. I've been lucky. I have a technician who is really willing to help. He worked hard jumping through all sorts of hoops to make it work. It finally got it working on my main computer. He also explained that I would have to repeat this on other computers on my local network. He even wrote a detailed description of what he was doing. At this point I had a computer connected to the NAS - something like an external drive. After carefully copying all the settings I could find, I went back to my other workstations. Nothing worked. Five more hours and I've come to the conclusion that Buffalo NAS just isn't worth the hassle, not in this age of Office 365. Another note: the promised 2TB of storage turned out to be around 1.8TB with Buffalo installed utilities. It seems overdone.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Little things
