Review on Outdoor Tech OT2301 Buckshot 2.0: Rugged πŸ”Š Waterproof Wireless Speaker for Outdoor Adventures, Mossy Oak by Jim Bethea

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Bluetooth range: 2 feet. An extra cable would have been more efficient.

This is my second buckshot and definitely my last. My previous charger stopped charging after about a month, but I decided to try again since I bought it at a REI flea market (buyers beware). For my second round I decided to buy a new one. The first assignment was on a weekend trip. I attached a lightweight speaker to the outside of my backpack, pocketed it, and my ears exploded with crackling music. Obviously Mr. Buckshot wasn't able to connect too well as my phone was in my front pocket about 3 feet from me. I brought the phone closer to check and lo and behold, it worked! So I had to stow my phone next to the speaker in my backpack for the rest of the hike, which meant no photos, no time, no song/playlist changes. (Who needs to change songs manually?) Since then, I've run another field test or two with the same results. The Bluetooth on this speaker is so bad I almost enjoy it. As a masochist, I would most likely keep it to myself if this thing spoke patronizingly to me between its awful reception ("You like that shitty connection, don't you?"). But it's not, so it's like giving up pleasure without any pleasure. Overall, the weight is good, the size is good, but it literally fails to do its only job. As they say, fooled me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, you won't fool me again.
