I need to drill 5/16" holes for the mandolin tuning pegs. It was difficult to drill straight holes. This drill guide has a 5/16" hole perfect for my needs. Drilling, The holes I drilled are perfectly perpendicular to the head of the mandolin. It is very difficult to drill exactly in the places I marked: pierce with a sharp nail, then use a small drill to drill a handle a few millimeters deep. a 5/16" drill bit (through the guide) in the small hole, just drill, no drill yet. Clamp the guide and make sure the drill bit doesn't move, also put a piece of wood UNDER the headstock to make sure there is no wood underneath torn. Then attach a 5/16" drill bit to the drill bit and CHECK. The holes come out perfectly. I've never done this before. The only difficulty I had was making sure the holes were in a straight line and exactly 2.5mm apart center to center. And this guide is certainly not designed for that. I need to make a 4 straight hole drill guide as detailed above. So a clamp and 4 drill bits will do it very quickly and accurately. There is a similar device on the market, but the center-to-center distance is less than 2mm.
