Despite the pleasant amber glow of these lamps, they do not completely repel insects that are normally attracted to the light. However, I will say that the largest insects have lost interest in lights. That's a blessing as June bugs love to bombard my head when I'm sitting outside or in my garage. As I often suffer from headaches I can say that these flashlights really relieve the pain of bright light! I would recommend these lanterns to friends and family but still expect to see some six legged stragglers walking around.
