Soldering fume extraction and dust extraction when working with wood are overlooked by many hobbyists. The reason for this is easy to understand: they're not adding any new features, which means they're not particularly interesting. But it's SO important if you want your lungs to function well into old age. I used to have one of the small Hakko desktop air filters. I figured it was ok as long as it was next to what I was soldering. I was wrong. This one is MUCH better. I still got quite a bit of flux smoke in my face with the old one, but this one took it all away. Yes, that means the solder and circuit boards will cool a little faster, but I'm happy to make that tradeoff. The only thing I don't like is the little mesh thing wrapped around the nozzle. I understand why it's there and why it needs to be as unobtrusive as possible, but it looks like it might be easily destroyed. No big deal. Also, I will say that the hose keeps its shape well but does not stay above the work area by itself. He needs a little support. Again nothing special but thought you might be interested.
