As I was hoping, Hakko FA430-KIT1 Smoke Absorber with C1571 is very quiet as it sucks in smoke. If you put the machine on the floor, the hose length is enough to reach the solder joint. I'm frustrated that you have to support or hang the tubing when you want to position the hole over the soldering area instead of laying it on a workbench surface.
Soldering fume extraction and dust extraction when working with wood are overlooked by many hobbyists. The reason for this is easy to understand: they're not adding any new features, which means they're not particularly interesting. But it's SO important if you want your lungs to function well into old age. I used to have one of the small Hakko desktop air filters. I figured it was ok as long as it was next to what I was soldering. I was wrong. This one is MUCH better. I still got quite a bitβ¦
The smallest harmful particle when soldering with flux is 3 times smaller than this filter can. MERV 20 or ULPA filter to get this particle size. Anyone who tells you otherwise will lose $ in the industry (employee health, factory cleanup, filter sales, etc.). The lid does not fit perfectly (still seals the filter). The fan is small and quite loud at high speeds. The price is painful. And yet we keep it! Here's why: there isn't enough competition in this space and it keeps prices high, nothingβ¦
