When I put my hand or wrist on it, it doesn't feel like a cushion

This may work well for some, but if you're already in pain I suspect this isn't what it is You are looking for. It's just hard on my wrist. I'm sure it's better than what's actually firm, but it's just not soft enough to be comfortable. Edit: In response to my negative review, the reseller emailed me suggesting replacing the wrist rest with a mouse pad. with a softer wrist rest, free of charge. That's great customer service!
