I can't say enough bad things about the locking mechanism NOT working. It is almost impossible to put a metal latch on a wooden board. If you're actually pushing it down, it's even harder to pull it up. I have been using this type of gate for many years and have never had this problem. I spent over an hour with pliers trying to tear the piece of metal or bend it hoping it wouldn't separate from the wood. I spent another hour using a utility knife on a piece of wood trimming down the size of the tree and although I removed quite a bit of wood it still wasn't enough. I go back to the garage to get my Dremmel. I really need a great baby gate and don't have time to return and order another. I hope to get this work done before it completely collapses. The rest of the gate is in perfect condition. If I could give minus 10 here, I would. I see a lot of other people have complained and tampered with the judges' work, so the manufacturer obviously doesn't care.
