Review on πŸ’» LG 24MD4KL B Ultrafine Monitor with Built-in Speakers and 4K IPS Display by Mike Sewell

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great companion for the new M1 or any Mac.

This is a great monitor if you're in the Mac ecosystem. Yes, it's been around for a while, but it's a tried and tested design and it works. Integration and simple plug-and-play operation make it easy to use. If you're using one of the new Mac M1 or Macs with limited ports, the extra USB-C ports on the back are your lifesaver. Pros: Beautiful panel that delivers very comfortable 1080p upscaling - razor sharp. , even if it's not retina quality at 200 dpi - Simple connection with a single cable - 500 nits of brightness and P3 color accuracy. Color calibration out of the box matches my 2020 iPad Pro very closely to the naked eye. Adjustable stable stand. Minimalist design. Yes, it doesn't have the ultra-thin bezels of modern monitors, but you'll forgive all that when you look at the panel. The monitor speakers are either perfectly acceptable or, dare I say, GOOD. depending on the content you are listening to. Cons: - Speakers can easily be distorted. Volume doesn't necessarily matter, but with certain content they tend to distort quickly, with other content it's not a problem at all. Strange. - No HDR. - The ambient light sensor for auto-brightness adjustment is in a logical place, but gets blocked when you mount a webcam on a monitor, which almost everyone has to do during COVID. Other than that, it's a wonderful monitor and if you're a Mac user I'd highly recommend it. It still makes me smile every time I use it.

Pros
  • Its curved shape helps reduce reflections and glare from ambient light.
Cons
  • some difficulties
