Fantastic telephoto Telephoto - excellent IQ

This is the best telephoto I have ever used. The build quality is excellent and the image quality is mind-blowing. Truly outstanding sharpness, contrast, color reproduction, with virtually no chromatic aberrations and purple fringing. Juicy bokeh. Very fast and almost silent autofocus (I thought the autofocus broke when I first used this lens! I'm so used to the hum of the screw-driven autofocus in the Pentax range). Fast and precise autofocus. I'm really impressed with all aspects of the IQ of this lens, that's the main thing. It looks like you're using a "normal" prime number from IQ. Wonderful. I have used many different telephoto lenses over the past 30 years and this is a real gem. Worth every penny of the price. The lens is very small considering it's 300mm, f/4 and IF. This is where the smaller APS-C sensor is really effective: at saving size, speed, weight and cost where it really counts and adds up: at the telephoto end of the range. I love my APS-C sensors! The 77mm filter fits most of my other lenses, which is nice. The lens hood is excellent and very nicely designed and made. The rubber leading edge does a good job of protecting the hood or anything it might come in contact with. The lens hood is smaller than a typical petal type lens hood and fits neatly and relatively compactly onto the lens barrel (reversed and remounted onto the lens hood bayonet mount). body (APS-C sensor) in such a small package! I remember my rather slow and bulky SMC PENTAX-A 400mm f/5.6. This lens blows the door on other lenses in every way. What I love about this lens: SHARPNESS! Contrast Overall Design/Balance The price for the quality of the lens is very reasonable. This lens is a real winner. If you are looking for a really sharp and well built long telephoto lens, this is the lens for you! Well, PENTAX, how about full-featured 1.4X and 2.0X ED/APO teleconverters? (Because they don't seem to make telephoto lenses longer than 300mm for your SLRs.)
