Installation was easy. You just slide it onto the GPIO pins. The instructions mentioned using a silicone thermal pad, but I just used some Arctic Silver 5 that I had on hand. There is a switch on the side of the device that gives you three options. "On" (the fan is always on), "Off" and "PWM" (the fan turns on automatically at a certain temperature). I installed it on PWM, booted the Pi and edited boot.cfg as instructed to automatically turn on the fan at 55C. I then ran a stress test, watching the temperature and fan to make sure it was working. Initial temperature 45°C. The temperature rose as the stress test continued. As soon as the temperature reached 55°C, the fan turned on. The temperature quickly dropped to 45°C. The stress test lasted about 10 minutes and the pattern was quite constant: temperature rose to 55°C, fan on, temperature fell, fan off, temperature rose back to 55°C, fan on again, etc. There were no problems, the temperature to keep below 55 °C. The fan is loud. I wouldn't call it "noisy" but it's noticeable when you're around. But my guess is that the noise is caused by a lot of air movement, not a poor quality device. I don't expect sound to be an issue unless you have a Pi very close to you and/or your hearing is not very sensitive. Overall I would recommend this product. Great value as you get 2 for $10. If the device fails or other issues arise I will update this review.
