Probe defective, otherwise ok for this purpose.
Upon receipt, quickly test the device by placing both sensors side by side in the freezer for 5 minutes with the sensors suspended and the tips not touching anything. One sensor reads the same as the instrument's own sensor, and the other appears to be faulty because it reads 30 degrees higher. I changed the plugin on the thermometer and got the same readings from the sensors. Therefore, I concluded that the probe was defective and not the thermometer.
