Review on ACDelco Gold Front Disc Brake Rotor (Black Hat) - Model 18A2660 by Mike Brumfield

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Genuine GM part and works great

My 2009 G8 had terrible steering wheel shake when I hit the brakes. Many have told me that the lower ball joint A and bushing do not work. The G8 does not have a forearm A. Help forums. People said it was a problem with the rotor. When I jacked up the car and wiggled the wheel, it was tight and none of the linkages looked loose. Since I was going to have to change pads anyway, new rotors were the cheapest thing to try first. The rotor is in a sealed bag in a standard GM parts box. I ordered two and Revane sent them in a large thin box that was broken in half. The rotors were still in the GM boxes and didn't look damaged. They're steel parts, so no problem. Revain could have packaged these better but they are quite heavy. The hat part of the rotor is painted black and the regular part is unpainted. The rim and inner blades are also painted black. A nice touch that helps prevent rust. Let's see how it handles the heat. The hardest part of replacing the rotors was removing the old ones. There is no threaded hole to push it out of the hub. A 3 pound hammer drill, an old hammer handle and a little persuasion removed the old rotor. According to the service booklet, you should mark the old rotor or measure the lateral runout of the new one. I didn't want to take out my dial gauge (too lazy) so I just installed the rotor. There was an oil film/preservative on the rotor. The brake cleaner took care of that. Test drove the car and it's great. The steering wheel does not wobble at all and the pedal does not knock. I don't know why they are "professional" but they fixed the problem with my car and I'm happy to camp.
