Review on GearIT 12AWG Braided Speaker Wire (10ft) with Dual Gold Plated Banana Plugs - Heavy Duty, Oxygen-Free Copper (OFC) Black Construction by Brett Morrison

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I only use high quality Gear IT electronics and high quality cables.

I bought "Gear IT" speaker cables as a temporary fix until I could reach into my locker to get the $1500 McIntosh cables and the $300 Emotiva cables which I kept along with the electronics when we got the new carpeting I use 2 pairs of McIntosh XRT-22 line array speakers front and back, the fronts I connected to the McIntosh Banana to route the cables to and the backs where I used the Gear speaker cables, I have a live mic in my listening room hardwired to a DBX spectrum analyzer, when I first hooked up cheap cables I wasn't expecting much so I switched that Spectrum analyzer not on the first time, after a few songs I started conducting A/B Tests with fronts and rears were driven by my 2ch preamp, the rears get exactly the same signal as the F Ronts, on the A/B tests I thought the "Gear" cables sounded good with a slightly higher level than the McIntosh cables on the fronts. I turned on the DBX and began a series of A/B tests to watch the display for differences in speaker performance that would show up if the speakers were performing differently than another matched pair. Bright high frequencies were all in my head as soon as I saw on the analyzer that the difference in dynamics is absolutely zero response, aka tone, that's when I realized the Gear brand cables cost me $45 , sounded just like McIntosh cables I paid $3000 because I was in shock when I brought all my electronics and cables home. I tested my Emotiva brand cables against McIntosh 1st cables and saw a slight increase in the "transient spikes" from Emotiva wires. I wrote this off because the Emotiva wires are entirely 2 separate speaker wires with bananas on one end and spatulas on the other ends making 2 points of contact with the amps. and 2 contact points on the speaker, McIntosh cables only have 3 contact points, 2 on the speaker and 1 on the amplifier. Cables, results were the same, 2 separate pairs of cables easily outperformed a pair of Gear IT branded cables with slightly increased transient peaks. I like the Gear IT brand cables so much that I have ordered a second pair of 25ft which I was supposed to receive on Tuesday. My plan is to make a true 2 core cable using 2 pairs of Gear wires to 1 pair of speakers, I plan to connect 1 pair to the woofers and a 2nd pair to the tweeters while routing my 2 pairs of Emotiva cables, and if I see the same increase in transient peaks shown on the DBX analyzer I will purchase 2 more pairs of 25ft cables with connectors like "banana" to make true two wire wiring of both pairs of speakers. I will also be ordering 3 pairs of Gear IT branded 10ft cables which will allow me to make a true Tri-Wire McIntosh XRT-28 line array in my 2 channel system. I will use banana plugs on 4 woofers, banana on 52 midrange drivers and banana on 26 tweeters, on monobloc amps I will connected directly to the terminals of each amplifier. The speaker cost me $1500, but they are not a junk assembly either and the only problem I see is that the Gear IT brand cables do not have heat shrink tubing on the banana plugs where the sleeve can be unscrewed from the tubing, to put 6" pieces on each banana and spade plug. The speaker cable you need is from Gear IT. These are excellent cables with great build quality.
