These bells work as intended. When our 9 week old puppy arrived I rang the bell every time we went to the potty and my whole family laughed and said I was being trained. About three weeks later I was in the kitchen, not paying attention to her, and I heard her ring the doorbell myself! So she definitely picked that up and has been on the phone successfully ever since. Haven't used the floor bell yet. As for the quality, one of the bells was bent and a pearl fell out inside. It was easy enough to put back in and bend, but a pup could easily choke on it if left unattended, so be careful, check carefully before hanging it on the doorknob. Hence the 4 star rating.
