The large fit fine the fabric cover under the laces covered the whole back so no skin was pinched or poking through.didn't even try on the xl possibly could of fit medium. The quality is decent for the price I got this for a Halloween costume and have been wearing it around the house for days no wear or tear yet. no need to size up unless you just have a large frame I'm somewhere in the middle and had no problems AND I'm a 36 DD the breast area fit fine
