If you have thumb pain at the CMC joint, talk to a therapist about a custom Colditz splint; This is the best way to protect the CMC joint without impeding movement in another joint. This product is a slightly viscous gel that stretches across the first metacarpal from the CMC joint to the MP joint. It can provide cushioning within the brace and/or reduce the appearance of a scar. I used it to soften the corset I wore after removing my cast for a Bennett's fracture. The clip rubbed against the metacarpals, causing a skin wound. As a side effect, the Viscogel made the surgical scar less noticeable. I've now switched to a Colditz tire and don't need the extra cushioning but it was great when in my bulky tire and the scar reduction bonus was amazing! Remember: This is NOT a form of endorsement. or act like a bracket. If you are looking for braces, this is not it. If you need padding within the brace OR need to reduce the appearance of scarring on the first metacarpal, this is a great choice!
