I don't use it on the water but I see where it can be of great help. I drive an old English sports car and can't put a cap on lest it be deflated. I like the baseball cap because of the peak that protects the eyes from the sun. This strap works well in this application. I no longer have to hold my hat with one hand. It never feels like it's about to fly away. Light and comfortable. I would put the hat on before putting it on my head and then adjust it by pulling. If you put on a hat and then fasten the strap, it can get caught in your hair. In general I like it very much.
