A cheap Chinese bomb looks more like this.

First off. I bought this charge controller brand new from Revain. It came in a padded envelope wrapped in clear plastic with no box or paperwork, the item was damaged on the bottom and definitely not new. I called Revain straight away and they said they were opening a case and it would take maybe 3 weeks to resolve. Unfortunately I didn't have time to wait 3 weeks as I needed to power this charge controller. So I decided to hook it up and see if it works at all. It worked fine on day one, although it took me a while to learn how to program it properly due to the lack of documentation. I set it to 24 volts to suit my system and everything seemed to work fine. When I checked it the next day it was fluctuating from the 12 volt system to the 6 volt system. I was very confused because I had just set the system to 24 volts. I checked the settings and it was still set to 24 volts. Soooo I reset my whole system and it's back to 24 volts. I left for the day only to return to the smell of electric burning. I opened up the closet where I keep all my solar gear and this thing melted! My expensive battery bank also burned out and luckily I didn't connect my inverter to it (I ran my inverter system directly from the batteries) otherwise it would have fried too! It could burn my house down! Luckily this didn't happen. I've been living offline for 12 years and this has never happened to me. I called Revane and company and they don't want to take responsibility for anything. I got my $89 back but lost thousands of dollars in batteries. Please do yourself a favor and don't skimp to save a few bucks. This was my first experience with a cheap charge controller that almost cost me my house. So my attempt to save a few hundred dollars cost me 1,000 shillings. Bad product and very dangerous!
