Review on πŸ”Œ Enhanced NOYAFA NF-816 Underground Cable Wire Locator Tracker Network Cable Tester and Wire Measuring Instrument by Phillip Hoover

Not very accurate for locating an underground dog fence

I have used the PetSafe Model RFA-50 broken wire detector for over twenty years and have successfully repaired about a dozen breaks in our underground dog run. Its PSU recently failed and they are asking over $40 for a replacement so I decided to give this NOYAFA NF-816 a try as the entire unit costs the same as my PSU. It arrived and after ten minutes of use I decided to trade it in for a PetSafe model RFA-590. We just bought a new house that has an entire underground hedge for dogs. I need to accurately mark its path for both lawn aeration and early installation of an irrigation system. The NOYAFA NF-816 indicated a path almost six feet wide, which for me was not accurate enough to place location markers. Based on my previous experience with PetSafe's Broken Wire Detector, I believe the RFA-590 will be very accurate in locating the wire to within centimeters. PetSafe RFA-590 is 2.5 times more expensive than NOYAFA NF-816, but sometimes you get what you pay for.

Pros
  • WARNING: To avoid damaging the tester, do not use on circuits! This device is for dead wires ONLY
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
