Nearly perfect! -- Difficult to fold

I recently adopted two adult purebred American Shorthair cats and had to pick them up in Seattle and fly with them on an airplane to my house and flew for almost 2 hours (thank goodness it was a direct flight!). We bought two tote bags, one silver and one bright yellow-orange. The cats took to the carriers immediately and we had no problems placing the cats in the carriers. The only problem we had was when trying to fit the tote bags under the seats in front of us on the plane. Based on Sleepypod's instructions and the diagrams on the website and the flyers that came with the cases, we tried to fold the ends of the cases to fit under the seats. They were almost impossible to assemble! The bottom of the stretcher was so hard we couldn't fold it. Instead, we had to wedge the media slightly at an angle. Luckily the flight attendants said nothing. (It helped that the cats were practically silent throughout the flight). My advice is to carefully break in the ends of the stretcher before you get to the airport if you plan to place the stretcher under an airplane seat. I've tried folding the ends after flight and it's still almost impossible. However, that doesn't mean the rest of the carriers aren't great. When traveling I highly recommend putting some absorbent "puppy pads" in the bottom of the carrier (on top of the existing bottom pad). I also recommend traveling with extra pads in case you need to replace them due to accidents. One of the cats pooped during our trip. After throwing away the one puppy pad we had (and bemoaning the fact that we didn't provide packaging for extra puppy pads), we hoped the cat could handle the regular pad. However, at the end of our flight, she vomited in the trunk. After disembarking, we tidied it up as best we could in the airport toilet. We were lucky enough to find a family bathroom where we could lock the door and let the cat out of the van for a few minutes while we dried and cleaned as much as we could. After a quick drive home, we removed the bottom liner and opened up the fluffy cover to wash it. It was easy to remove and run in the washing machine on the gentle cycle. After replacing the fluffy cover and putting the insert back into the stretcher, the stretcher was like new again. Since we came home with cats, once again we traveled with cats in carriers and this was to take them to the vet. No problem with this trip. :) I love that the racks can be strapped securely to the back seat of my car. If it weren't for the folding issues I would give these racks 5 stars.
