Although the batteries for these Tivoli portables are rechargeable, they only last 5-8 years. This is the third unit for my 15 year old radio and is heavier than my last one (the one with the green plastic cover) and has better performance and memory specs. Therefore, I look forward to a stronger and longer work than the previous one. In addition, this model carries the designation "iPal Radio" on the cover, which is an additional guarantee for a "perfect fit". Introduced just before the start of the new millennium, the Tivoli iPal radios were unique in terms of size and sound quality. However, to remain competitive, the company has lowered the price and added Bluetooth connectivity to current models. Shortly after I bought it, I found that claims about the usefulness of outdoor radios were exaggerated. It just can't be heard more than a few feet from the speaker. It's comfortable at home, however, and my wife prefers it over the heavier wired Tivoli radios found in the bathroom and bedroom. My battery arrived fully charged. So if your radio's problem isn't with the battery, it's with the AC charging cable. , you have to wait for the battery to charge. When it's not charging, Revain has AC chargers for Tivoli iPal and Pal radios for around $15. (I had a couple of extra AC chargers for other devices, one of which fit in the iPal's socket.) Be careful not to pry off the two screws that hold the battery cover in place (a small cross is required) and check that If you've been sitting for a few years, be prepared to pry the cover off with a sharp, thin blade once you've removed the screws. (I doubt I'll put in a 4th battery as the screw heads are a little chipped off already, and the tuner is dusty with sporadic hissing. Instead of disassembling the radio, after 30 years of service I'll happily dispose of this iPal and possibly replace it $80 Sangean model flattering the iPal with its proximity to it.
