As with anything cat-related, you can never predict what your cat will really like and want to use. Unfortunately, our cat didn't like this scratching post. In fact, she really likes sisal and seems to prefer it, but for some reason she doesn't like this option. My only guess is that she likes the thicker coiled ropes that wrap around the pole, which this one doesn't have. On the plus side it looks fun with cut outs and my 11 year old son put it together himself. He had trouble screwing in a dangling balloon because it was difficult to get his hand in, so he hired his younger sister for the part. Our cat has never acknowledged the existence of a dangling ball. So if you're having trouble finding him, you can always skip him. I think our cat would have preferred chasing a ball around the house anyway. I tried sprinkling it with the included catnip but our cat still ignores it. I'm not sure if that means it wasn't fresh or if she's just not impressed.
