Better than trying to use the old one.
This ring is not part of the fuel pump/sender parts although it should be. I had to bend the tabs on the old one to remove it. Although I straightened it out, it didn't fit properly and had very little fuel leakage/bleed after refueling. Once I put a new one in, there are no more leaks.
