Like others I had a Vicks cold humidifier and the fan on it failed after about a year. Instead of getting a new one ($45?) I tried this. This is the perfect physical shape, the plug works well, the polarity is correct. It took me about 10 minutes to swap out the old one - fairly easy if you have a medium Phillips screwdriver. It produces about 30% more fan noise than the original. And it doesn't wick away moisture (mist) completely. I think it emits more moisture at altitude, but instead of rising, it flutters and wraps around the device. It does a little better, being rejected by about 20%. I still personally dissipate moisture with an exploding HEPA filter, so that's fine for my purposes. Of course it was cheap.
