Review on πŸ”§ Broan Nutone JA2B097N Replacement Motor - S89615000/89615000 Explained by Ken Hamdan

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Not quite like the original!

This motor replaces the old exhaust fan motor in our bathroom that recently broke down. The new one we received was the same, except the new motor shaft didn't have a collar to keep the fan housing from moving. Within ten or fifteen seconds of turning it on, the fan was rubbing against the motor and had to be removed. Instead of trying to explain all this to the Revain rep as to why it wouldn't work, I decided to improvise. I used some nylon washers and a small wooden peg as spacers to hold the fan housing in place. I drilled out the dowel to fit directly onto the motor shaft. I could do the same thing with a bunch of nylon washers, but I didn't have enough on hand to even out the gap between the motor and the fan housing. Anyway it's been running for a few weeks now and the fan is silent so the heck it's working! Also, the new motor was not in a sealed case because there are multiple holes in the case for heat dissipation. I don't know why the design changed, but it probably won't last as long as the old one. This will likely save the manufacturer material costs. I think I'll do this again in a few years.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Without automation
