HOW COULD IT BE?: Speakers

I'm not a techie or music lover, but I love and can definitely tell good audio components from bad, especially speakers. I have a couple of very expensive home theater setups that use voltage regulators and Sony ES components with ridiculously expensive connections and speaker wire to Polk LSi speakers and Polk subwoofers. My desktop setup is very modest and uses a Fosi Audio, V2 50x50 DAC. P1 amp and tube preamp with upgraded tubes. They are all connected with custom made RCA four star cables and 12 ga twisted pair cables for the speakers. I use my laptop to stream hi-res audio over USB using Equalizer APO/PEACE software. Inexpensive, but overall very clean sounding and reliable. I've been using my $800/pair LSi7 bookshelf speakers and BIC F12 subwoofer for a while. Too much for a desktop install? Yes, perhaps. Anyway, I saw these Sony 3 Ways on sale for $73 a pair. They have very good reviews. I decided to try them because I wanted to get my LSi7s back to their original position. I was expecting a drop in audio quality, so I wasn't that excited. Anyway, this is a desktop setup for listening at low volume, so I didn't want to spend a lot. Well, let me tell you something. These little Sony SSCS5 speakers sound better than my Polk LSi7! More detailed with better soundstage and separation. HOW CAN IT BE? $73 a pair? Come on. I can't understand how good they sound. I listen to the Rippingtons Built to Last album. Wow, I'm stunned and amazed. I guess I'll listen critically at my desk now? I will need to see a therapist.
